A friend and I went to dinner here a couple days ago, neither of us had heard of it but wanted to try a new place. The service was good, if the wait staff was slightly too attentive. The atmosphere was a little on the cheesy side, but it was quiet and clean, so I won't complain. And they gave us parking validation, which was nice. The prices weren't listed online, so we didn't know what to expect, but it was slightly on the more expensive side. Now, to the important stuff: Food. I don't know if it's because I haven't been eating much bread, or if it really was that good, but the diner rolls were lovely. They came with a compound butter, with some kind of herb, which was OK, but unnecessary. I would have gorged myself on rolls, given the option. We got a caprese salad to start, it was perfectly good, fresh and flavorful. For dinner my friend got the pork tenderloin and I got the steak medallions. They apologized for the wait - we were told my medallions were overcooked the first time so they were redoing it. The wait was not excessive, though. The dinners were tasty - but I think mine was better - as mentioned in other reviews, the meat was quite tender. And my glass of pinot grigio was very nice. We splurged and got dessert, a very light, well made tangerine creme brule. And a glass of port. No complaints there. It was a good experience overall, and I will return again one day. It's not in my top ten Salt Lake spots, but very agreeable.

I should have known eating at a place attached to a mall is typically not the best food choice but it was late and we were short on time. The guy in charge of filling waters and setting tables was really good at his job. Like too good and way annoying about it. If I took a sip of water he practically ran over and filled everyone's back up. It was uncomfortable. The other waitstaff were all fine and we placed our order of Chicken Alfredo, Chicken Marsala and Lemon Chicken. The chicken in the Alfredo tasted like frozen costco bags of chicken strips. Alfredo sauce was bland and boring. (I know....ordering Alfredo is always a weak Olive Garden sorta choice but we had a teenager with us and that is what she chose.) The Marsala was okay. The sauce had a decent flavor but the chicken was really dry and hard to cut with a knife. The roasted squash was a joke. It was cut into tiny cubes of something you would find in a grade school lunch and way undercooked and bland. I will say the scalloped potatoes that came with the dish were the best part. Those were pretty good! Onto the lemon chicken, this was probably the best dish out of the three. Still the roasted veggies were cut SUPER small and bland and the mashed potatoes that came with it were flavorless for garlic mashed potatoes. The place seemed to be busy for a Thursday and the other folks there seemed to enjoy the place. I'll give it three stars for the good service, nice plaiting and ambiance.

I really enjoyed this place. About the price range as Olive Garden, but like 10 times better! My wife and i ordered some ravioli which was wonderful, and we had a fruit and cheese platter which was the highlight for me! Dessert was also great. My expectations were surpassed and i would definitely return to La Jolla Groves.

La Jolla Groves is a great addition to the Gateway Mall. Parking here is plentiful and validation is offered. If you're searching for a place that takes reservations for large parties, this is a great option. I was part of a group of 12 people on a Saturday night, and I was surprised to see that they weren't very busy. Service was nice and prompt. The restaurant is fairly large and the decor is neat and elegant. They serve a nice variety of new American cuisine and have something for everyone. If you want something light, they have a nice selection of salads and sandwiches. There's also a range of pastas and classic entrees to choose from. For appetizers, I loved their ahi tuna which was served with a tasty ponzu sauce. The stuffed mushrooms were nice and creamy and served over some greens to balance it out. These were decent sized portions which made sharing easy. I also sampled some of the mushroom bisque which was very rich. My main course was the baked shells. It sounds really simple, but I couldn't pass it up when I read that it had bacon in it! It did not disappoint, and my cheese craving was satisfied. I also got to taste the mushroom ravioli which was almost like the bisque, except there was chewing involved, and the tenderloin entree I thought was a bit overcooked. As far as desserts, I sampled the lemon cake, creme brulee and the chocolate bundt cake. The presentation of the lemon cake was beautiful. It has a kind of sugar cage around it, and is a really cool look. I expected the creme brulee to be caramelized on top, but it came out looking like a pudding. Nonetheless, it was still quite good. My favorite was the chocolate bundt cake. It had a molten center, and was a great ending to a nice meal.

I've visited La Jolla Groves multiple times over the last year and not once have I been disappointed with the quality of the food and the staff. I would consider this restaurant one of the 'hidden gems' of Downtown Salt Lake. The atmosphere is typically quiet and relaxing (likely attributed to it being at the Gateway) and the food is phenomenal. La Jolla Groves has done a great job at providing guests with a near 'fine-dining experience' in both service and quality of food without charging fine dining prices. I'd highly recommend for lunch or dinner.

The place is preposterous. Fake lemon trees, awful wine and food... Well, let's just say that Olive Garden is the benchmark for this place and they have ways to go. Do yourself a favor and visit a chain before visiting this sorry excuses for a restaurant. Btw, the only reason why I am giving this place a 1 star is because of Tony, who is amazing and should consider getting a job at an establishment such as Copper Onion.

This place has surprised me. A couple of years ago, my wife and I ate at the Provo location and enjoyed our meal. While we both thought it was good, we never made it back as we live in Salt Lake and don't venture to Provo very often. Fast forward a couple years and I see the new location in Salt Lake. My first thought was that I'd be surprised to see this place succeed in Salt Lake. Provo was one thing, but Salt Lake? Then I changed my mind. You see, one night after a movie we dropped into Pallet for a bite but the wait was too long so we left. We didn't want to drive around looking for someplace else so we agreed on La Jolla. I was surprised to see that the place was pretty full. As I sat there eating my meal and observing my surroundings, I quickly noticed something - the crowd. For the most part, it was older. Folks in their 50's and 60's or folks in their 40's with children in tow. Well, that got me thinking; where does the non-trendy crowd dine in Salt Lake when they're looking for a tasty meal in a more upscale environment (that's not a chain) but don't want to have to deal with reservations, long waits, pretentious staff or customers, etc.? A place like this, I suppose. You see, although it might not be spectacular, the food is unique, tasty, and reasonably priced. The space is more on the upscale side yet is relaxed enough to bring your kids. Frankly, places like this simply don't exist in Salt Lake - or are very few and far between. Sure, you might not be brushing elbow's with Salt Lake's movers and shakers, but you'll get a tasty meal in a nice environment without all the fuss; and I'd dare say, without needing a reservation on a Friday or Saturday night.

Rudest waiter I've ever experienced. Sir Ben "manager", you sir should not be waiting tables. The food was ok (it was much better when I went there a year ago), but the staff was so rude it was impossible to eat. I don't even think I can fully explain the awkwardness of the waiter. He constantly messed up our order, but we didn't care as much as he did. He served my sister a side of sauce for her salad (we didn't ask for it on the side). He then retuned to the table five min later super annoyed that my sister had used the sauce as the sauce was actually for my sandwich. Then he just stood there, in silence. We were like ok?? Could we get more sauce for the sandwich as you said it was for the salad? He was super annoyed and didn't even respond, just left. 10 min later, after I'd already eaten part of the sandwich he returned with the sauce. We never asked for sauce on the side of the sandwich or salad in the first place!!! We also needed to explain the concept of splitting a check FOUR different times!!! Which of course he still screwed up. When we first asked about splitting the check he said "I'll do that later, if we split your check your food will come out at different times". Wtf? Such a strange horrible weird waiter! Then after we'd been there 45 min and still no food, he asked if we'd like "more rolls" we hadn't had any rolls yet. Nope. We'd just been waiting forever for our food.. Then he got annoyed at my sister and rolled his eyes when she asked if she could order a drink, as he'd never asked her if she wanted one. This was after we'd been there almost an hour. There was something resembling a fingernail clipping in my water glass. Gross. Wish I'd noticed it sooner, but I noticed right about the time we finished :( I had had a vegetarian sandwich last year that's not on the menu. I asked "sir Ben" if they still had that sandwich. His reply "I'm not sure". Then he just stood there in silence. For like a min. This guy was soooo creepy!!!! Finally my sister was like "umm could you go ask, maybe?" He actually sighed loudly, rolled his eyes and said "I guess..." Geez I hate to put you out and make you do your job sir Ben. When the check came my sister realized she'd left her wallet. Realizing that sir Ben would freak out if we then asked for one check instead of two checks like we'd explained to him FOUR times now, we just let him split it and I gave my sister one of my credit cards to use, hoping he wouldn't realize the same name on both cards. Nope of course he noticed and sir Ben took the opportunity to point it out like the total asshole he is. Such a smug jerk. Ugh!!!! I hate so much that I wasted my fun night out with my sisters with Sir Ben the biggest freak I've ever met! If you are indeed the manager like your name tag claims sir Ben, than you need to be demoted.

Great food and wait staff, nice atmosphere. Lunch or dinner, this is a winner. Fine dining and everything on the menu we have tried has been tasty. Take advantage of the easy parking (they validate at Gateway). The trendy, downtown spots are cramped and over-rated. This is my go-to place when I'm in or near SLC. Riverwoods location is fantastic too.

The atmosphere is great and the food is overall quite good. The only complaint I have is the proportion. If I'm going to spend the money La Jolla charges then I would expect to leave full.

A bit on the pricey side but it was a lovely night out.
